Pop. 80. In Brighton T., Northumberland C. in Presqu 'ile Provincial Park on L. Ontario, 11 km SE of Brighton.
The French name translates as 'almost an island,' referring to the hook-shaped peninsula jutting into L. Ontario formed by the last of the great glaciers retreating from the L. Ontario basin 10,000 years ago.
In 1787 the area was conveyed to the British by the Mississauga Indians. A lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula was built in 1840.
